Our Twelve Top Tips For A Happy Christmas

As part of our Christmas Countdown here are our 12 tips for achieving a happy Christmas.  We will be here again after the Christmas holidays should you wish to discuss divorce issues, children’s matters or complex financial issues regarding your divorce.

1 Organise

Organisation is key to a successful Christmas. Prioritising diaries well in advance will give everyone a chance to plan around the big day.  No-one will then feel they are making sacrifices.

2 Create

Making a 12 day calendar and filling it with a good deed to do each day in the run up to Christmas will create a wonderful, feel good factor.  Charity events, dog walking, cooking a meal for someone in need …all good things to plan.

3 Plan

Plan activities with the children throughout the holidays -take the focus off the one big day.

4 Timing

Make time to catch up with old friends – enjoy some pressure-free time with them.

5  Love

Love yourself a little more – plan and do something you love or always wanted to try

6 Expectation

Don’t expect perfection – the reality may be less idyllic.  Have a good support network should emotional situations arise

7 New Start

New Year – New Start -get planning some positive activities for the new year and indulge yourself.

8 Brace Yourself

Even the best Christmas Days are frantic -remember to find ways to stay calm if any flare ups occur.  Avoid drama and have your support network on hand.

9 Recharge

Take the time to recharge your batteries – enjoy time with adults separately as well as with the children.  Enjoy the  holiday spirit and all it encompasses.

10 Silence The Guilt

Make yourself a guilt free zone and stop any negative inner dialogue.  Try to refocus on yourself and have a little fun without any guilt.  Create a gratitude list to remember the good things about yourself.

11 Focus

Place focus on a peaceful season rather than engaging in any conflict.  Not always easy, so keep communication to an essential minimum with your ex, particularly after any alcohol.

12 Celebrate

Even if you are spending Christmas apart from your children, celebrate the Christmas time you have with each other – remember to create a wonderful experience for them.
